My Unbiased Review For Wealthy Affiliate

What Is Writers.work

Writers.work claims to be a holistic, all-in-one platform that helps you launch your writing career.

You will get training and an array of tools and features to facilitate your work – from finding the best writing gigs to submission of your write-up.

However, there is a catch – the services come with a membership fee. There are no free trials but it does come with a 30 days money-back guarantee (more on this later).

Writers.Work does not employ writers directly, it is just a resource site so there is no guarantee that you will get any freelance writing work by engaging their service. Being a member also doesn’t give you any advantage over other writers in terms of how easy to get an assignment.

How Does Writers.work Work

Writers Work promise a lot of features and give you a bunch of reasons why you should jump on it.

Getting started with Writers.work is a breeze, simply sign up for their membership and you are set to go.

As I have mentioned earlier, the membership comes at a cost with 30 days money-back guarantee. There is only one type of membership, but you get to choose whether to pay it monthly or pay a one-time fee for lifetime membership:

> The Monthly Membership ($15)
> The Lifetime Membership ($94 downsell to $47)

The ‘early-bird’ pricing is kind of misleading – the price has been $47 since the time Writers.work was launched! It was never being adjusted to the full pricing.

Once you are in, you get to enjoy a plethora of features offered by Writers.work. Let’s start with a run-down of what you get with writers.work:

1. Magical Job Finder

The Job Finder scours the web and curates live listings of writing jobs from a range of online sources.

You may adjust the search filter to specify certain keywords, the source of the job, the type of job, salary expectations etc.

Guess what, since those listing are basically aggregated search results from the web; you can actually find them on your own just by looking on Indeed, ProBlogger, ZipRecruiter etc.

Writer’s Work does not do a good job of helping its audience with opportunities to get better-paid work. They don’t even make it easier for their users to land on the job!

If you compare Writers Work to manually searching for jobs yourself, you may end up spending a little more time sifting through the listing from different sites but hey, at least it is free!

Moreover, if you need to submit additional information and materials along with your resumes, such as a pitch, Writers Work will just redirect you back to the source where it was originally posted and you will continue your application there.

2. Instant Submission Finder

Writers.work compiled a list of publications where you can submit your article and get paid. You are provided with the instructions of what the publications are looking for, how much it pays, and how to submit your work etc.

However, there’s no way to tell if those listings are still active, as this doesn’t look like a live search.

3. Deep Focus Text Editor

Writers.work’s text editor comes with “built-in audio tracks”. It plays calm audio files that help you stay focus and away from external noises.

Plus, it comes with a grammar checker, live word count that gets updated as you type, readability analysis and the grade reading level to help improve your work.

The Editor also allows you to publish posts to your blog directly or export them as a PDF. This means that all of the content is on one platform instead of across multiple platforms which makes it easier for people to get their writing job done.

4. Project Organization

This is a personal project management system for organising writing jobs, documents and tasks.

Once you start accepting more jobs from various platforms, this feature comes in handy as it allows you to manage all of the live writing projects from one place. You can list your tasks, link documents, and track time spent on each task. The interface is also user-friendly.

5. Online Portfolio

Having an online portfolio help to showcase your work to potential employers. It presents evidence of your relevant skills and abilities, and make your application look more professional compared to others who do not have one.

It can actually increase the chances of you landing an interview significantly as well!

Writers.work allows you to create a portfolio within the platform. You can add a profile picture, create your portfolio ‘clips’ together with title and work descriptions, and provide a link to your social media channels.

That being said, there are many ways to create a portfolio.

The point I’m trying to make is that there are so many ways to create a portfolio with your own style without having to rely on Writers.work. For a starter, you can do so for free with Linkedin!

6. The Writers.work – Career Training Videos

The training provided includes the basics of writing, copywriting, how to market yourself etc.

It also comes with a Writerswork “University Library” containing a bunch of training resources for new writers.

The training consists of three modules with a total of 19 video lessons, each video spanning only for a few minutes, which is pretty short I would say.

So if you are looking for decent free training, I have collated for you a few highly reviewed courses at Udemy that will cost you absolutely nothing:

What I Like About Writers.work

1. Fairly Priced

Although there is really nothing special with the services provided, $47 lifetime membership does sound like a reasonable price for what we are offered.

2. 30 Days Money-Back Guarantee

Having no free trials, the 30 days money-back guarantee is the second-best option we have. Unfortunately, there are some issues with their money-back guarantee which I will explain in detail to you in a while.

What I Don’t Like About Writers.work

1. Job Listing

Although the Magic Job Finder does save you some time from scouring the internet on your own, those job listings actually come from places like Indeed and Problogger.

In other words, as long as you are willing to spend a few more minutes of your time, you can literally get those job listing for free. There is nothing you can get here that you couldn’t find elsewhere.

In fact, to help you get started I will give you a few freelance writing sites here:

> Upwork.com
> iWriter.com
> TextBroker.com.

You can immediately start browsing the jobs for free. Most sites let you select the types of topics you want to write about and what your minimum rate is.

2. Related To MasterWritingJob.com

After taking a deeper look, I found that the people behind Writers.work are the same people behind MasterWritingJob.com.

MasterWritingJob.com is a site similar to Writers.work and was founded in Oct 2016. It makes bold claims that if you pay $34 you’ll be earning your first paycheck as a freelance writer in 30 minutes, and potentially earn $10,000 as a freelance writer writing for other people. Of course, none of these claims is true.

The site received many complaints and currently, it is no longer accepting new members.

3. Negative Reviews

If you have spent some time researching about Writers.work, you must have stumbled upon some bad reviews.

So far, there are 4 complaints file against Writers.work on the Better Business Bureau (BBB) and none of them have been answered. That goes to show a lack of concern about their customers.

Not to mention some of those complaints are about how the customers failed to get a refund from Writers Work. It makes us wonder how committed are they towards the 30day money-back guarantee.

Also, getting an ‘F’ rating on BBB definitely makes the matter worse.

So you like to write? Why not build up your own blog and be your own boss instead? It is not difficult.

Is Writers.work A Scam?

Writers.work seems to be a legit company. However, due to the bad rating and dubious practices, I would not recommend Writers.work to anyone.

Ultimately, Writers.work is just a job board with some training and toolkit for writers. It is meant to help you get started but by no means catapulting your writing career. Many people started their writing career without much training either, and most of the freelance writing platforms do provide free basic training to their writers.

Why Not Make A Full-Time Income On Your Own Blog?

When you write for others, once you accepted the payment and that’s it! You no longer own your work, it belongs to someone else.

Do you know that when done properly, it is possible for an article to generate thousands of dollars of income? And how much do you get paid?

Once I realise how important it is to own my own work, I no longer write for others. I personally prefer to build my own audience, by publishing my own content, so that I can control the asset. Because the content is THE most important asset of all!

Look at these people, they are not some extraordinary genius, they are people just like you and me.

And one thing they have in common?

They write for themselves.

Not only that, they have learnt how to do it the proper way by following one proven system.

If you are interested to find out more, check out the guide below. It will show you where to find everything you need to go from a complete newbie to an extraordinary marketer.

Hi Grace, A rating of only 3 / 10 never bodes well for a program, and combined with an “F” rating on BBB, I will avoid them. The unfortunate thing is that many people that are new to writing and wanting to earn from writing, will sign up with a platform like Writers.work, only to find that they do not get real training, and that they have wasted their money. Thank you for the warning.

You are welcome, glad that it helps!
