‘It looks somewhat scamming, with some genuine knowledge that probably can benefit me…’
That was my first impression on Wealthy Affiliate.
Despite my strong suspicion that Wealthy Affiliate is a scam, I decided to give it a go, since starter membership is free anyway. Now that I have already been with Wealthy Affiliate for more than 3 months, I believe that it is finally time for me to pen down my Wealthy Affiliate review.

By far, most of the reviews that I have read are extremely bias, driven by the single focus on sales and profit. I am hoping to make a difference here by providing a holistic review on Wealthy Affiliate, and it is my desire that by doing so, I can help you to make a decision for yourself whether Wealthy Affiliate is well worth your time to sign up or not.
As I have mentioned earlier, I had a strong suspicion that Wealthy Affiliate is a scam, and my suspicion is not ungrounded. Many times I read reviews that sounds too good to be true, which I call it a picture-perfect review. I am not just talking about reviews on Wealthy Affiliate here, this is happening in every online-money-making niche. Dubious promises like making tons of money quick and easy, misrepresented information that enticing people into signing up services… just to name a few. I personally hated those and I decided to start up this site for this reason. If that is exactly what you are looking for – quick and easy money, I advise you to stop reading right now, because you can find no such nonsense here. We are not just creating a website, we are building up web business, which requires time and relentless effort.
To walk the talk, I have to first disclose to you that I am an affiliate for Wealthy Affiliate, so if you click on my affiliate link here, I will be rewarded if you eventually decided to upgrade to paid premium membership. In fact, the benefit goes both way. I will be notified the moment you sign up for the free starter membership through my link, so that I can personally welcome you to the community, be there when you need any help through private 1-1 conversation platform. Simple as that, you just need to sign up for your free account using my affiliate link.
Well… did I just contradict myself, trying to craft you a picture-perfect review to entice you to sign up?
Frankly, you caught me there, I do hope that you sign up, but I am not going to paint you a picture-perfect review here. Even though it is free to sign up, I seriously think that you should at least have a reasonable expectation towards affiliate marketing before doing so, else you would be better off spending your beautiful day elsewhere enjoying yourself.
What Led Me to Wealthy Affiliate
I had been in and out a myriad of programs and courses, trying to look for an online business niche that is suitable for me. I went from doing forex, answering survey, selling products, joining competition to blogging.
I started a food blog and when it finally came to a time to monetise it, I was a complete newbie on affiliate marketing. Having to piece together snippets of information from various online sources is really overwhelming and frustrating to me. Wealthy Affiliate offers an easy way out as it promises free courses that are able to help even the complete Layman in internet marketing jargon.
And that led to my turning point, it gave me the push I needed to sign up for Wealthy Affiliate free starter membership. At that moment, I was only interested in the 10 free lessons given to the starter members.
It was an eye opening experience the moment I signed in to my free account. I soon found out how narrow minded i had been. Why limited myself to the free courses if I can get so much more? I was particularly fascinated by the platform that allows interaction between members, the vibrant community, the recorded video training, the live video training, and live chat option. You even get to contact the founder personally by simply dropping him a message.
What’s in It For Me As Free Starter Member
Features included in starter membership are utterly impressive. The 10 free training courses and dashboard access are provided free for a lifetime, while other features like live chat and keyword tools are free for a limited time or usage. Here is a summary of what you get:

The free features here are sufficient for you to build up a SEO optimised site, with guidance on how to pick a niche. From there, you can decide for yourself whether to have your learning curve drastically cut short by joining the premium membership. My take is that, if you are serious about being an affiliate marketer, the training and support provided for a premium member is going to fast track your result, saving you hundreds of hours and propels you to greater success. Considering that even the world renowned billionaire Warren Buffett once had mentors, Wealthy Affiliate is as close a mentor you can get. In fact based on the statistic, 1 in 8 starter members eventually upgraded to premium membership.
What’s in It For Me As A Paid Premium Member
As a premium member, you will get everything offered in the Wealthy Affiliate. There is absolutely no hidden services or upsells that make you feel like you are missing out something if you don’t buy into it.
After conducting many researches and comparison, what stands up to me in Wealthy Affiliate is the community support and constant updating of new information. Networking with fellow affiliate marketers is important for newbies. Visiting each other’s site, leaving comments not only helps to increase traffics but also build up healthy rapport and trust.
Internet business is a fast evolving industry. The daily added training and live weekly webinar ensures that you always get the latest information. All the past videos and training are also accessible to you. I have not seen such value added features provided elsewhere.
If you are a total beginner, Wealthy Affiliate is able to guide you from finding a high potential niche, setting up website, creating high value content (content that loved by Google, Bing etc), drawing traffic, to monetisation of your site. You can’t build up your site whole heartedly if you constantly have to researching for best practice in every area you are involved in, unsure about your next step. You can’t teach someone to fish without a fishing rod.
Setting up a website is the easy part, creating high value content that converts and drawing relevant traffic is the difficult part, you will need the right tools to make everything works together. Now instead of searching for your own ‘fishing rod’, it is conveniently handed to you by the Wealthy Affiliate team.
$49 per month might sound hefty, but considering a decent unlimited keyword research tool that may cost you on average $50 a month, hosting of one single website at around $5 a month, website security package at around $8 a month, the membership fee here is actually a pretty good deal. Not to mention everything is covered under one roof, easy to navigate and completely hassle free.
If you needed a push, below are some success story shared by fellow affiliate marketers in Wealthy Affiliate.
The GOOD and the BAD about Wealthy Affiliate
What is GOOD?
If I can only choose one feature that I LIKE most, I will pick community support hands down. Many people overlook the importance of networking with fellow affiliate marketers, and it is not just about the social aspect. Fellow beginners leaving each other comments on blog post, helped and get helped, and learning by observation how successful members build up their online business. Those are valuable things you can’t find elsewhere.
I am not trying to belittle their training courses. In fact I like it, especially those little check boxes that remind you of your unfinished ‘homework’ to be done, and having all the tools needed nicely integrated under one roof. But to be honest, there is no lack of training courses in this digital era. There is always another training program, another guide book, another guru…
I know by now my review must be almost picture-perfect, so it is time for me to switch to the BAD side of Wealthy Affiliate.
What is BAD?
I should say that overall I am still a satisfied and happy member, but there are few things that Wealthy Affiliate can do better.
For starters, the premium membership of $49 is more than worth it if you are using all the tools and services included, ideal for beginners that have not signed up for any other services. We can’t say the same for experienced affiliate marketers though, since they probably already have preferred hosting provider or keyword research tool. If there is another tier of membership caters for this group of people at a lower fee, that will be just great.
The community setting make it easy for people to connect with each other and checking out others’ status. Personally I feel the constant need of self-restraint from getting my mind drifted into the strings of conversation. Without a good time management it is easy to lost focus and left important things (building your business!) undone. Time is our single most valuable asset, by channeling it the correct way we can maximise our business progress. Probably, a forum can be a good addition, that way everyone can browse by the topic of interest.
Overall, I still think Wealthy Affiliate does a great job raising up aspiring affiliate marketer, and that is something that I personally believe in, something I can confidently introduce to even my close friends and family.
Who is Wealthy Affiliate for?
All affiliate-marketer-wannabe should at least sign up for the free starter membership, since email address is the only thing required and no credit card/payment info will be asked, there is absolutely no risk for you by signing up.To be the next rising star, you will need to be either very talented, and willing to take a few wrong turns of road on the way, or you can save your time by learning from those who have already succeeded and have the road paved for you.
If you are undeterred by hard work, willing to work for FREE for at least 6 months before seeing any result, and like the idea of having all the tools (keyword research tools, domain registration, website hosting, website security…) needed pre-selected for you, with step-by-step training provided and integrated into the overall program, then this is for you.
Who is Wealthy Affiliate NOT suited for?
While starter membership is free and all are encouraged to sign up, Wealthy Affiliate may not be suitable for everyone.
If you are in immediate need of income, or if you want to earn money fast and easy, then this is not for you. In fact, any online business that promises quick money are most likely either scam or not sustainable. Wealthy Affiliate empowers you to build legit online business that is going to bring you long-lasting passive income.
The approach used by Wealthy Affiliate is by content creation. You don’t have to be outstanding in your English command to write. I for one, English is not even my first language! Just write as if you are talking to someone. Having said that, you can’t hate writing if you want to be in this business. This article alone is already close to 3000 words, and writing is basically what you will be doing, day in day out.
With most people cited ‘building website’ as their biggest hurdle to overcome, Wealthy Affiliate focus most of their training at the beginner to intermediate level. If you are already a site owner with decent knowledge on how to boost traffic, then their training is most likely not suited for you. Of course, that is with the exception that you want to be their affiliate marketer. Members earn twice the commission compared to non-member, something you want to seriously consider.
