Health and wellness is one of the biggest and growing pie in the market. A lot of companies are tapping into this huge opportunity and Modere is one of them.
However, many of these Multi-Level Marketing companies have a very bad reputation especially when their distributors promote products using inappropriate or even unethical methods.
First of all, let me assure you that I’m not associated with Modere in any form, so I am not here to give you a sales pitch about Modere.

What Is Modere
Modere is a direct selling company specialising in health & wellness products with the motto of “help people improve health”.
The Modere as we know now started in 2012. However, its history goes all the way back to 1987.
Back then, it was called Neways. When it first started, the focus on the business was very much on recruitment, expanding downline, and making money off monthly autoship by downlines.
Neways was also involved in multiple lawsuits and complaints:
1. In 2002, Neways founders and owners Thomas and Leslie DeeAnn Mowers were charged with tax evasion and conspiracy.
2. In 2005, Neways pleads guilty to illegally distributing a product called BioGevity that contains human growth hormone.
3. In 1993, Neways recalled 4,900 units of “Quickly,” an alleged weight-management product, when it was found to contain a full medical dose of furosemide, a prescription-only diuretic.
Due to the bad reputation, Board members of Neways decided to rebrand the company to Modere in September 2015. Modere business model is supposed to be more customer-focused. They also do away with the membership fee for customers, only Modere distributors need to pay the membership fee.
Modere follows the business structure set up by Neways, it remains a multilevel network company that markets through a network of independent distributors.
It claims to have over 1 million loyal customers around the world, with a presence in the U.S., Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Europe, Japan and India. Their products are manufactured in the USA† in its NSF GMP certified facility.
Some of the proud achievements by Modere are:
1. Top 10 Health & Beauty eCommerce brand
2. 2021 Ranked #3 among the Fastest Growing Women-Led Companies of 2021
3. 2021 Best Eye Cream – CertClean Clean Beauty Awards
4. 2020 “Green & Gorgeous” Editor’s Choice (CellProof Essentials) – Beauty Shortlist Awards
5. 2018 Best Weight Management Product – SupplySide West Editor’s Choice Award
Overall, this company works in a similar way to these MLM companies:
How To Join Modere
Just like any typical MLM company, you cannot sign up for Modere on your own. You have to sign up under another Modere consultant by providing the sponsor referral code of the person who is referring you. Else, Modere will allocate one for you. You will be someone else’s recruit and be part of someone else’s team.
If you go to their website, they don’t have much information on how to get started and what’s the cost.
All they ask you to do is to get back to the person who introduced this opportunity to you – a very typical method used by MLMs.
Product Line
Before we take the plunge, it’s important to familiarise ourselves with the product line Modere has to offer.
Modere has a huge product line that falls into the following 4 categories:
Collagen Sciences – These are the flagship products of Modere, made with their new generation of collagen Liquid BioCell®. Every product here is formulated with their exclusive Collagen/HA Matrix® Technology to support skin, tissue, and joint health. This line of products is touted to redefine the way we age, by counteracting skin photoaging and restoring youthful skin.
Personal Care – Products for the hair, mouth, and body.
Health and Wellness – Products for weight management, general nutrition, active lifestyle and targeted health.
Household Care – Products for the laundry, dish wash, and other cleaning supplies.
Modere boasts of their clean ingredients that are either safe to use or come directly from nature. Apart from avoiding toxic chemicals like sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS), triclosan, petrolatum, parabens, phosphates etc, the company also removes unnecessary substances from various formulas and leaves only the most vital components.
If you are interested in the full product range you can find them on the Modere Product Page.

How To Make Money With Modere
Like many other MLM companies, you can make money with Modere by:
1. Selling their products and earning commissions. You can either get products at wholesale prices and then sell them for the retail prices to make a profit, or refer your customers to make their purchase from the Modere website, where Modere pays you the difference between the retail price and wholesale price.
2. Recruiting people to access bonuses and higher commission
3. Refer a friend and earn a commission when someone you refer buys through your referral link. This works like affiliate marketing – you promote your personalised referral link and if someone takes your recommendation and makes a purchase through your link, you will get a cut from their order. Personally, I find this approach most appealing – no hard selling or face-to-face pitching. To help you get started promoting your links, here is a free course to guide you along.
Cost To Join Modere
There are 2 ways for you to be part of Modere:
Customer (Free)
Customers can buy Modere products at retail prices and earn a commission selling Modere products through affiliate marketing.
The person who makes a purchase through your affiliate link will get $10 off, and you will get $10 in product credit toward your Modere goodies.
Remember, if you choose to promote Modere products as a customer, you can only earn shopping credit. To earn cash you will have to be a Social Marketer.
Social Marketer ($39.95+)
To register as a social marketer, you will have to pay $39.95, which includes the following:
1. Access to Customer Perks Program
2. Up to 15% discount on your monthly order
3. Smartship Loyalty Rewards
4. Share the Love Program
5. Direct to Customer Marketing Program
6. Daily and Monthly pay for sharing Modereproducts according to the Modere Compensation Plan
7. Personal Website to Share
8. Virtual Office Suite of tools and training to support business growth
9. Free ModereLIFE mobile app
You will be asked to select an enrollment pack when you sign up, you have many options to choose from:
1. XM Launch Packs
2. Basic Packs
3. Essential Packs
4. Any Inidvidual Products
The price of the enrollment packs ranges from $59 to $659.
They will tell you it is optional to purchase any products, but still, you are strongly encouraged to take up an enrollment pack.
Modere recommend you to choose the XM Launch Packs (which happens to be the most expensive one!), as it includes some perks like bonuses and conference ticket that are not made available in other packs.
Monthly Fee
Signing up as Social Marketer and paying $39.95 won’t automatically qualify you for commissions. To be able to earn a comission you have to accmulate 150 Activity Points every month.
Activity Point is calculated based on the combined value of purchases made by a Social Marketer and his customers.
Now let me share with you a tip, there is a way to go around the 150 Activity Points – that is by signing up for SmartShip, which is just another name for the monthly products autoship.
75 Marketer Point (around $100 value of products) SmartShip automatically fulfil the 150 Activity Points monthly requirement, basically cutting the points requirement by half.
But of course, now the money needs to come out from your own pocket.
Also, you’ll need a minimum of 250 points in your first calendar month to be eligible to earn a Modere Experience.
So let’s do the math, $100 per month adds up to $1,200 a year, plus $39.95 and the enrolment pack that will set you back by $1898.95.
Just remember we still have to factor in additional costs such as ad placement, postage and packaging costs etc.
Modere Compensation Plan
Like many other MLM companies, Modere has a complicated compensation plan.
I will try to lay it out as simple as possible.
Modere compensation plan works on a unilevel model, placing you as a distributor at the top of a unilevel team, with every personally recruited distributor placed directly under you (Level 1). When a level 1 distributor recruits new downlines, they are placed on your level 2 unilevel team; when a level 2 distributor recruits new downlines, they are placed on your level 3 unilevel team, the process goes on infinitely.
As you can see below, members are classified into 10 types of Social Marketer Builder Title based on their total purchase volume and commission level:
1. Consultant
2. Senior Consultant
3. Team Leader
4. Senior Team Leader
5. Social Marketing Director 1
6. Social Marketing Director 2
7. Social Marketing Director 3
8. Elite Social Marketer 1
9. Elite Social Marketer 2
10. Elite Social Marketer 3
There are 6 ways Modere claims you can get paid:
1. Customer POD bonus

This allows you to earn a 5% – 36% commission on the customers’ first orders in that month. The percentage is calculated based on the promoter title achieved at the end of each month.
2. Live Clean Shopping Credit
Earn up to $200 Live Clean Shopping Credits each month based on the total Customer Points in their POD and
the number of Active Customers.
3. Promoter Development Bonus
This bonus ranges from $10-$100, and it rewards Social Marketers for helping their team advances through rank.
For example, when a Social Marketer achieves Platinum3, and if the upline is of rank Team Leader, Director, or Elite, the upline can receive a $100 Promoter Development Bonus.
4. First Order Bonus 10% & Get 3 Doubler x 2
Social Marketers get their bonus doubled when they enrol 3 Social Marketers within a period of two commission
months, who each have a first order of at least 100 MP.
5. Monthly Team Builder Bonus
Only Social Marketers of the rank Team Leader or higher are eligible for this bonus. The bonus ranges from $100-$3,000.
6. Generational Unilevel
Social Marketers can earn anywhere from 4% – 7% bonuses, the commission structure goes 8 generation levels deep.
7. 4 or More Bonus
This is an additional 4% bonus if you manage to build 4 or more “teams”.
8. Leadership Development Bonus
This bonus rewards Social Marketers for building leaders within their team. Only Social Marketers of rank E1 or higher are eligible for this bonus. The payout ranges from 7% – 22% depending on the rank of the Social Marketers and the achievement of the downline.
9. Coded Mentor Bonus
To be eligible for Coded Mentor Bonus a Social Marketer must achieve Director 1 or higher and maintain his or her highest-paid builder title. Enrolment of downline will be ‘coded’ to the Social Marketer based on the Social Marketer’s rank at the point of enrolment. This bonus pays on all new downlines’ first orders.
10. Power Bonus
This is an additional 3% bonus on customers’ first order for Social Marketers who achieve 480 Activity Points in their first
month with Modere.
Don’t worry if you cannot figure out how does the compensation works, such structures are common among MLM companies. They cannot reward members directly for recruitment, as this will give rise to suspicion for pyramid schemes (more about this later). So instead, they offer rewards when your downlines achieve a certain sales volume. That’s to encourage you to recruit and build up your team.
The various levels of rewards and dealerships also serve as a way to make the whole scheme look enticing and exciting. They make it looks like career advancement is great with many ways for you to make money.
To make things easy, just remember, the two most important thing to keep in mind when joining an MLM company is :
1. Sell the products
2. Recruit downline
Here is a walkthrough video of the compensation plan if you want to understand it in more detail:
Is Modere A Pyramid Scheme
Despite some critics labelling Modere as a pyramid scheme, personally, I don’t think so. First off, Modere have real quality products to offer. They’re not entirely focusing on recruiting as they recommend people to become customer-first (In other words, it’s product-oriented!). Also, you don’t get paid by recruiting people. You get paid when there’s a product being sold.
What Is A Pyramid Scheme?
According to Wikipedia, a pyramid scheme is a business model that recruits members via a promise of payments or services for enrolling others into the scheme, rather than supplying investments or sale of products.
As the recruitment progress, the structure soon becomes unsustainable due to the sheer amount of new recruitments needed to take place. There simply aren’t enough people to maintain the structure of the pyramid. As such, pyramid schemes are doomed to collapse and are deemed illegal by many countries around the world.
Due to the nature of MLM, there is a fuzzy line between MLM and pyramid scheme. Avoid any MLM that overemphasise on recruitment rather than selling the actual product. Legitimate MLM is focused on the product itself, not recruitment.
What I Like About Modere
1. Backed By Research
Perhaps learning from their past mistake, Modere is committed to the research and development of science-based, category-leading formulas that are as safe as they are effective. They are conscious about not placing any potentially harmful ingredients in their products.

2. A+ Rating From BBB
It is impressive for a company to achieve A+rating from the Better Business Bureau (BBB), not many companies are able to achieve that. This goes to show the credibility of the company in terms of good customer resolution and support system.
3. Involves In Charity Work
Modere has a give back to society program that supports donations to charities.
Modere partnered with Vitamin Angel which is a nonprofit organization dedicated to giving underprivileged children the nutrients they need to create lifelong opportunities. When a customer places an order with Modere, he or she can also add a donation to Vitamin Angels.
4. Integrate Technology Into Their Marketing Effort
I am not knocking it, there is something powerful about face to face selling – looking at your prospects in the eyes, observing their body language as you pitch etc.
However, with this pandemic going on, and the busy lifestyle that we have, most people starting to shun away from this practice. You can spend an hour pitching only to have people tell you ‘I will think about it’, but never really get back. It is an inefficient and time-consuming way of building a business.
Good thing that Modere is venturing into social media marketing. It allows you to use technology to generate leads from the comfort of your own home. You get to have your personal website which you can drive traffic to.
If you are interested in network marketing, a combination of both strategies is what I suggest. The more avenues you explore, the more chances of winning!
What I Don’t Like About Modere
1. Recruit, Recruit, Recruit…
No, I am not saying that Modere is a pyramid scheme. The difference between this company and a pyramid scheme is that Modere has products to sell.
However, their compensation plan rewards people for building a downline, the bigger and better the team the higher bonuses and commissions as opposed to just generating retail sales.
In other words, success hinges not only on your ability to sell the products but also on the performance of your downline.
We all know the drill – an old friend or acquaintance contacted you out of the blue, before long this person is inviting you to a hosting party or asking you to watch an informative video of some sort. What hit next was the sales pitch – how you can live a carefree life while earning a side income.
It is unfortunate when someone pitch their network marketing business at the expense of their friendship.
I hate to say this, but most people newly involved with an MLM company have to get started from their close family and friends. If you want to be part of this, that’s exactly what you have to do too. Do you have what it takes to put your relationship on the line?
After all, Modere is a typical MLM company. You’re required to do all the face-to-face selling to run this business.
2. Turn Distributors Into Customers
This is a secret they don’t want you to know.
Where do all the revenue of all these multi-million networking companies come from?
You will be surprised, in many networking companies, the bottom-ranked distributors are the ones supporting the financial weight of the company.
Your monthly auto ships, the sales target to meet, another rank or level to conquer – all these just to get you hooked up until you willingly pay to promote its products, pay to get into the game, even before you start to earn any money.
3. No Early Bird Advantage
Despite Modere was founded in 2012, let’s not forget that their history goes all the way back to 1987. The consultants back then followed through the transition of the company from Neways to Modere.
Timing is one of the key factors to your success in the MLM business. To establish yourself in the MLM industry, you need to get onboard the right company at the right time. Too late and you will miss the golden period for growth that the early adopters enjoy.
There are many advantages of joining an MLM early on. For example, during the early stage, there is a mystique surrounding the opportunity because not many people have come to know about it yet. It is an exciting time to get involved!
While it is still possible for you to make it big later on, you will have to work much harder than you would have if you had joined early on.
4. You Have to Pay in Order to Receive Commission
To remain active as a Modere sales rep and receive a commission from Modere, you need to purchase or sell a certain amount of products every month to accumulate enough points.
It’s 75 Points of product to your SmartShip, or 150 Activity Points every month. If you fail to maintain the points, you won’t be able to receive a commission if any.
In other words, you have to pay to get paid, it’s that straightforward.
5. How Much Money Can You Really Make With Modere?
Here’s the answer that you are looking for…
Below is Modere Income Disclosure Statement 2019

As you can see, the majority (65.25%) of the Social Marketers earn an average of $66.84 a month, which is equivalent to $802.08 per year!
If you recall our calculation earlier, you will need at least $1,200 to cover the cost of autoship.
So what does it mean?
It means the majority of the Social Marketers are actually losing money!
And we haven’t even taken into account the cost of running this business – the membership fees, the additional products they bought etc.
Are You Cut Out For Personal Selling? It Is Not For Everyone…
I got my leads every day without hard-selling.
Can You Really Make Money With Modere?
Overall, Modere sounds like a decent MLM company to work with. It is good to see that the new branding actually turned Neways image around for the better.
Modere combines old school face-to-face selling methods with the online referral program that allows you to use Internet marketing as a business building tool. For those who are not a fan of face-to-face selling, an online referral program can be a game-changer. You simply need to learn how to drive traffic to your referral link, and your business is set to go. Here is a free course that I find helpful.
I know MLMs are a tempting model because the startup cost is so low compared to many legitimate businesses. But we also have to keep in mind that due to the pyramid structure of network marketing, recruiters can earn from both their own sales and the sales of their downlines. Naturally, it rewards those at the top.
A common issue with MLM is that, in order to continue receiving commission from your downline, you have to keep on working, otherwise, you will lose the earnings of your current rank, or even the right to sell.
If passive income is what you are looking for, then this is probably not what you are hoping for.
It is easy to see how things can get complicated quickly – juggling between sales, and management of your team. It is by no mean an easy task. Far too often, I have seen many people get involved in MLM thinking that they can just get a few recruits and then sit back collecting money – now we know that it is far from the truth!
How I Make Passive Income Online
In my honest opinion, the best reason for joining any MLM company is when you really love a product, and you want to get your cost covered while making extra money.
If making money is your only reason for joining, forget about it. Losing friends, wasting time and energy is not going to make it worth the money you make. And the worst part, you are still technically ’employed’, you build up nothing for yourself at all. If one day the company get busted, the downline that you have spent so much building will be gone in an instant too.
If you want to create an online business and learn how to make a full-time income, keep on reading because I have good news for you.

All these success stories you have read above come from applying one proven system.
There is no need for inventory, product creation, management of a team, or tapping into your personal network and proposition them to become your prospects. If it sounds good to you, find out more about this system here or click on the blue button below:
