Thanks to the advanced technology, creating a website today has never been easier. Now you can build one with virtually no coding experience at all!
But it’s not always obvious knowing where to begin, and it can be overwhelming at times.
Today, I am going to walk you through step-by-step on how to build your website. That is also how I set up my Kernel Affiliate site here.
Key Things To Consider Before Building A Website
1. Domain Name
A domain name is the key element of your website, it can make or break you. Consider this – your URL is the first thing your visitors see, and it defines your brand. With the right domain name, it can increase brand recognition, and help with your SEO ranking.
So choose it wisely, make it short and easy to remember, and preferably include your niche keyword into your domain name.
2. Web Hosting
A reliable web hosting makes sure that your site is always up and running. You also want to make sure your service provider is using the latest technologies as well as having measures for backups, securely monitored, and with good control.
3. SSL Certificate
SSL stands for Secure Sockets Layer, it creates an encrypted connection and protects your sensitive information as it travels across the world’s computer networks.
Some web hosting providers include SSL certificate in their hosting package, while others charge it separately.
With Google promising an SEO ranking boost for sites using SSL, that’s all the more reason for us to have the SSL certificate put in place. Think about outranking your competitors by simply having an SSL certificate!
4. Keyword Research
Once you start creating content, keyword research tool becomes your best companion. Make it a habit to research for low competition keywords so that your post can easily be ranked among the top!
5. SEO optimisation
When it comes to choosing the best search engine optimization plugin for WordPress, All in One SEO is hard to beat.
It comes with features like XML Sitemaps, SEO for custom post types, SEO for blogs, automatically optimizes your titles for Google and other search engines, generates META tags, integrate your WordPress website with Google Analytics, Google Webmaster Tools, Bing Webmaster Center etc.
However, it requires a business WordPress account ($25/month) for you to install this plugin. Alternatively, you can try YeostSEO which is free to install for any type of account.
Setting Up Your Website
Here comes the exciting part, because I am going to show you how to set up your website in under 30 seconds.
And that’s it!
To be very honest with you, I spent more than 30 seconds. But mainly for fine-tuning details like font colour, font size, and switching between different themes to decide on one. But those are the fun part actually so I do believe you will enjoy the process of customising the aesthetic of your site.
What Made This Possible?
So what makes setting up a website this easy?
I can’t tell you enough how much this platform has helped me, so here I am going to introduce it to you and I hope it benefits you as much as it does for me.
Wealthy Affiliate is a platform that has the beginners in mind. It simplifies everything so that beginners can just focus on the important part of building up a blog without being overwhelmed by the technical stuff.
You get to have all these done in a single platform:
– Domain registration*
– Web hosting
– SSL certificates
– Get to install All in One SEO plugin (yes, that one that supposed to cost you $25/month before you can install it).
– Access to Jaaxy keyword research tool.
– Get comments for your posts (very important for beginners, it is really difficult to get organic comments for your site when you are still new, and having comments encourage more interaction between you and your future audience).
– Access to an affiliate program network where you can find various affiliate deals.
– Networking with other affiliate marketers in the Wealthy Affiliate community.
– A PM away from the Wealthy Affiliate founders.
* While you can do domain registration at Wealthy Affiliate platform, just like domain registration done in anywhere else, you will be charged separately for it.
Do I Have To Pay Anything For It?
The short answer is both Yes, and No.
If you want everything listed above, you will need to become a premium member of Wealthy Affiliate.
However, you do get to enjoy quite a handful of benefits by just being a free starter member.
Personally, I was a free starter member for a month before switching to the premium member during their Black Friday Sales.
I literally created a fully functional website (I have to admit the theme wasn’t that great though) hosted for free under .siterubix subdomain, performed keyword research, installed All In One SEO plugin, by just being a free starter member.
Once I upgraded to a premium member, I immediately switched to a better theme, and moved my site to full .com domain within a push of a button, as easy as that.
Now let’s take a look at the comparison of the 2 membership options here:
Don’t let the $49/month get to you, there are other ways to get it at a cheaper price.
How To Get Started?
Whether you just want to get a feel of setting up your website, or get some free training, you are invited to come and see it for yourself. It is free anyway and no credit card (or any other payment detail) required.
See you on the inside!
