What Is Atomy

Atomy is a direct selling company specialising in health and personal care products.

It all started in 2009 when the company was founded by Han-Gill Park from South Korea, with the vision of providing premium quality products to people all over the world at an affordable price. Before Atomy, he already had more than 10 years of experience in the Network Marketing industry. Han-Gill Park remain the CEO of the company until now, and he has been featured on the cover of the Fortune Korea Magazine.

Their first overseas branch was set up in the U.S. in 2010. To date, Atomy has established more than 21 regional offices, including Korea, Japan, Canada, Taiwan, Cambodia, Philippines, Malaysia, Mexico, Thailand, Australia, Indonesia, Russia, and Singapore.

Instead of opting for a traditional retail route, Atomy decided on a networking marketing business structure for their sales and distributors. What this means is that you have the opportunity to join in on their business opportunity by becoming a distributor.

According to Atomy, they have 15 million members globally, and their sales representatives can fetch thousands in commission each week, with bonuses of up to £720,000.

Some  of the proud achievements by Atomy includes:
1. First in direct selling industry to receive the $100M Export Tower Award (2019)
2. Officially recognized as a consumer-centred network marketing company by earning Consumer Centered Management (CCM) certification (2019)
3. Atomy HemoHIM’s accumulated sales reached 1 trillion KRW Annual sales of 100 billion KRW for 5 years in a row, #1 in the industry (2019)

How To Join Atomy

Just like any typical MLM company, you cannot sign up for Atomy on your own. You have to sign up under another Atomy consultant by providing the membership number of the person who is referring you. Else, Atomy will allocate one for you. You will be someone else’s recruit and be part of someone else’s team.

Atomy Product Line

Before we take the plunge, it’s important to familiarise ourselves with the product line Atomy has to offer.

Atomy has a huge product line, their primary products are skincare and personal care. Over the years, they have also veered into other product lines:

Skincare & Cosmetic: Lotions, ampoules, toners etc
Men’s Care: Aftershaves, perfumes, innerwear, and more.
Home Care: Hygiene products and other commonly used products at home.
Dental and Personal Care: Hair and body wash, creams, and other beauty products.
Supplements: Probiotics, Vit C etc

There are simply too many products under the Atomy brand, if you are interested in the full product range you can find them at the Atomy shop.

To see how their products fare, I did a quick search on Amazon and it appears that their Atomy Toothpaste is a hit. It comes in a set of 5 and selling for $28.89 on Amazon at the time of writing. It garnered almost 800 reviews with a stellar 4.6 out of 5 stars rating. The main feature of their toothpaste is that it contains broad antibiotic substances such as green tea extract, triclosan and propolis that inhibits bacterial propagation and prevents gingivitis.

I am not sure about you, but I tend to steer away from products containing Triclosan. The use of triclosan is associated with a disruption of thyroid hormone, and there are also ongoing studies that investigating the potential of developing skin cancer after long-term exposure to triclosan in animals.

How To Make Money With Atomy

Like many other MLM companies, you can make money with Atomy by:

1. Selling their products and earn commissions. You can get products at wholesale prices and then sell them for retail prices to make a profit.

2. Recruiting people to access bonuses and higher commission

Cost To Join Atomy

Surprisingly, this MLM is free to join!

No starter package, no membership fee, no autoship… this is a rather rare find among the MLM companies. Anyone can start promoting Atomy products without spending any money.

To get started with Atomy, you simply have to sign up as a sales rep, as simple as that.

However, there is something worth mentioning…

Atomy Monthly Fee

In order to earn a commission selling Atomy, you will have to accumulate 10,000 PV per month. That’s equivalent to around $20 worth of product.

I would say this amount is pretty decent as compared to other MLM companies like Bonvera, which requires a $100+ monthly autoship.

Such an amount is rather manageable, even if one failed to make a single sale in a particular month, he only has to budget in $20 expenditure to make a purchase of Atomy products himself. After all, if you are selling Atomy products it only makes sense that you are using their products yourself.

So let’s do the math, $20 per month adds up to $240 a year, which is within the means of most people.

Just remember to factor in additional costs such as ad placement, postage and packaging costs etc.

Atomy Compensation Plan

Like many other MLM companies, Atomy has a complicated compensation plan.

Here I will try to lay it out as simple as possible for you.

Atomy’s compensation plan works on a binary compensation plan, a structure where you take in members at both left and right legs. The problem with such a structure is that often time, people end up with one huge leg and another much smaller one. That happens when you get one very successful team under you.

Now, to qualify for bonuses you will have to achieve a certain minimum threshold in the smaller leg,  which means that you have to diversify your attention and help to bring up other teams as well.

As you can see below, members are classified into five types of dealers based on their total purchase volume and commission level, and the performance of the smaller leg play a crucial role in determining which level you get classified into:

Sales Representative – Accumulate 10,000 to 299,999 PV
Agent – Accumulate a minimum of 300,000 PV or a Sales Representative with a smaller leg of at least 600,000 PV accumulated in the previous month
Special Agent – Accumulate a minimum of 700,000 PV or an Agent with a smaller leg of at least 1.4 million PV accumulated in the previous month
Dealer – Accumulate a minimum of 1,500,000 PV or a Special Agent with a smaller leg of at least 3 million PV accumulated in the previous month
Exclusive Distributor – Accumulate a minimum of 2,400,000 PV or a Dealer with a smaller leg of at least 4.8 million PV accumulated in the previous month

Now let’s move on to the commission/ bonuses, there are 4 types in total:

General commission
44% of the entire sales PV will be distributed between qualified members every week according to the rates. Individuals must first accumulate at least 10,000 PV in order to accumulate downline PVs.

Masters’ bonus
This requires you to be a Special Agent with a minimum of 2.5 million Group PV under each leg. You will get an additional 0.3-10% of the entire sales PV

Mastership promotion & incentives
These are extra perks like cash rewards, travel tickets, products etc.

Education commission
6% Center’s total PV to cover operational expenses if you open an education company approved by the company

Don’t worry if you cannot figure out how does the compensation works, such structures are common among MLM companies. The various levels of rewards and dealerships are just a way to make the whole scheme look enticing and exciting.  They make it looks like career advancement is great with many ways for you to make money.

Just remember, the two most important thing to keep in mind when joining an MLM company is :
– Sell the products
– Recruit downline.

Here is a walkthrough video of the compensation plan if you want to understand it in more detail:

Is Atomy Pyramid Scheme

Despite some critics labelling Atomy as a pyramid scheme, Atomy refuted the claim by describing itself as “a consumer-oriented network marketing company”. It also highlighted that Atomy is free to join without any obligation to sell products, and the vast majority of Atomy users are consumers, meaning they are just buying the products instead of selling them for commission.

What Is A Pyramid Scheme?

According to Wikipedia, a pyramid scheme is a business model that recruits members via a promise of payments or services for enrolling others into the scheme, rather than supplying investments or sale of products.

As the recruitment progress, the structure soon becomes unsustainable due to the sheer amount of new recruitments needed to take place.  There simply aren’t enough people to maintain the structure of the pyramid. As such, pyramid schemes are doomed to collapse and are deemed illegal by many countries around the world.

Due to the nature of MLM, there is a fuzzy line between MLM and pyramid scheme. Avoid any MLM that overemphasise recruitment rather than selling the actual product. Legitimate MLM is focused on the product itself, not recruitment.

What I Like About Atomy

1. Backed By Research

Atomy was born out of necessity. It provides a solution for workers in the Korean Atomic Energy Research Institute (KAERI ) who were suffering from low immunity due to radiation exposure.

HemoHim, one of the first Atomy products consists of immunomodulating herbs, namely Angelica gigas Nakai, Cnidium officinale Makino, and Paeonia japonica Miyabe is known to provide energy and boost immunity.

The concoction was developed by the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute (KAERI) as part of the government project in 1997, exclusively for the researcher working in KAERI. It was then commercialised and sold by Atomy.

2. Good Quality Product

It seems that Atomy products are receiving raving reviews from customers worldwide.

A review like this does boost the morale of the distributors. No amount of sales pitch can beat an honest customer review like this.

Of course, with so much misinformation online, we can’t always trust every single review written, some reviews are probably written by the sales rep themselves.

So how to tell them apart?

Here is a tip for you, always look at the chart and study the distribution of the reviews. If there are 2 peaks I.e. high positives and high negative reviews, then there is a high chance that many of those positive reviews are forged.

A distribution like this I.e. one peak at the 5 stars and the curve that naturally getting lower towards the end of the negative review, looks healthy and genuine.

3. Satisfaction Guarantee

For many other MLM companies, people are joining only to make money. I have to admit that Atomy is somewhat different when looking from this perspective. It occurs to me that many Atomy members are actually customers that had tried and tested their products, love them and eventually joined the company.

Atomy is aware of it, and truly stand for their product. They proudly provide a 100% satisfaction return policy whether or not the products are used.

What I Don’t Like About Atomy

1. Recruit, Recruit, Recruit…

Now, I am not saying that they’re a pyramid scheme. The difference between this company and a pyramid scheme is that Atomy has products to sell.

However, their compensation plan has you recruiting a lot of people to get higher bonuses and commissions as opposed to just generating team retail sales.

In other words, success hinges not only on your ability to sell the products but also on the performance of your downline.

We all know the drill – an old friend or acquaintance contacted you out of the blue, before long this person is inviting you to a hosting party or asking you to watch an informative video of some sort. What hit next was the sales pitch – how you can live a carefree life while earning a side income.

It is unfortunate when someone pitches their network marketing business at the expense of their friendship.

I hate to say this, but most people newly involved with an MLM company have to get started from their close family and friends. If you want to be part of this, that’s exactly what you have to do too.

Do you have what it takes to put your relationship on the line?

2. No Income Disclosures

Any business venture involves risk. Before getting started, it is always best to exercise caution. Do your research and look for numbers on your odds for success. The hard numbers will show you whether to say yes or run for the hills.

As long as you understand the risk and can afford it, that’s fine. But of course, never start a business where the odds of success are better at a Vegas slot machine – that’s common sense.

So here comes the problem, Atomy is not a public listed company, and they do not release any income disclosure statement. Without income disclosure, we can’t do our math and can only make our wild guesses on the income potential. It is true that Atomy has a lower monthly sales requirement, and therefore reducing your chance of losing too much money. However joining an MLM should be more about the earning potential rather than the sunk cost, right?

3. You Have to Pay in Order to Receive Commission

To remain active as an Atomy sales rep and receiving commission from Atomy, you need to purchase or sell a certain amount of products every month to accumulate enough points.

It’s 10,000 PV (around $20) every month, not really hard to achieve but if you fail to maintain the points, you won’t be able to receive a commission if any.

In other words, you have to pay to get paid, it’s that straightforward.

Can You Really Make Money With Atomy?

Well, it’s a sad truth that the odds are definitely stacked against you when it comes to making money through an MLM business. Now don’t get me wrong; I’m not saying Atomy can’t help some people make their dreams come true and be successful, but don’t expect overnight success because chances are slim indeed!

Let’s look at the numbers.

Based on research at the FTC, a vast majority of 99% of MLM marketers are losing money. That left with just 1% that actually turn a profit. And that 1% is basically those at the very top of a recruitment structure.

Due to the pyramid structure of network marketing, recruiters can earn from both their own sales and the sales of their downlines. Naturally, it rewards those at the top.

What does it mean?

That means, you have to work your way up to the top 1%, and those who joined early has an unfair advantage over those who join later.

If passive income is what you are looking for, then this is probably not what you are hoping for.

It is easy to see how things can get complicated quickly – juggling between sales, and management of your team. It is by no mean an easy task. Far too often, I have seen many people get involved in MLM thinking that they can just get a few recruits and then sit back collecting money – now we know that it is far from the truth!

How I Make Passive Income Online

Although it is possible to make money with Atomy, it is not something I would recommend you to work with.

In my honest opinion, the best reason for joining any MLM company is when you really love a product, and you want to get your cost covered while making extra money.

If making money is your only reason for joining, forget about it. Losing friends, wasting time and energy is not going to make it worth the money you make. And the worst part, you are still technically ’employed’, you build up nothing for yourself at all. If one day the company get busted, the downline that you have spent so much building will be gone in an instant too.
