What Is Crowdtap
Founded by Matt Britton in 2009, Crowdtap is a marketing research company that connects brands with consumers offering content creation, product ideation and media distribution solutions.
Simply put, it rewards people for taking online surveys, testing samples and helping companies develop products.
By far Crowdtap has raised a total of $17M in funding, and it is currently headquartered in New York, NY, USA.
How Does Crowdtap Work
If you are a company looking to conduct market research about your products and services, you can get your job done by Crowdtap.
And if you are a freelancer seeking home-based opportunity, Crowdtap offers you a chance to do just that – you can make money by testing products, participating in online surveys, or inviting other people to join.
Signing up with Crowdtap is easy, you can either do so via Facebook or e-mail.
To get started with Crowdtap, you are asked to answer some basic demographic questions. That is to facilitate the process of matching you with suitable tasks (or “Missions” as they put it). To be part of the team you’ll need to be a US resident. Currently, they do not accept applicants from other countries.
Each task is targeted at specific demographic profile such as a particular interest area, spending habit or consumer patterns. If you fall within the demographic group as specified by the task, you will receive instructions on how to complete it. Once completed, you get to earn points towards gift cards and other rewards. You’ll even receive free samples delivered right to your home.
Your tasks may include:
1. Reviewing Products
You will receive samples in the mail for you to review. You are to test the product and provide your honest feedback. Your opinion may contribute towards perfecting/ finetuning of the product.
Members are chosen for sampling opportunities based on the specific requirements of the brands that provide those samples.
2. Multiple Choice Questions
These are quick polls that come in multiple-choice questions. The poll is not really a high-paying task – three to five points on average per poll, but it is one of the easiest ways to earn points. You are asked to answer some simple question which can be done within a few seconds time.
3. Survey Questionnaires
Questionnaires are similar to polls but with more questions to answer. There might be some open-ended questions which require more in-depth answers. Points rewarded for survey ranging from 10+ to 100+. The longer the survey, the more points you get.
4. Focus Group
Focus group is an opportunity hard to come by but it is definitely a high-paying one. You may be asked to meet up in person for the interview/discussion.
You may be asked to take a photo of a specific product and share it on social media. Tasks like this can easily earn you around 200 points, which is quite a good reward.
6. Link Sharing
Instead of sharing photos, you are now getting rewarded points by sharing links on your social media. Typically, a task like this reward you 30-60 points.
Minimum cash out amount is 500 points, which is equivalent to $5 gift card. Once your payment detail gets checked out you can expect the gift card in your inbox within 24 hours. There are many gift card options to choose from – Adidas, Amazon, Sephora, Target etc.
Users had shared that you may exchange your first two 500 points each for $5 gift, but thereafter it is going to be 1000 points for $5.

What I Like About Crowdtap
Crowdtap comes with mobile apps, allowing the users to make money anywhere, anytime they want, as long as they are connected to the internet.
They also offer a good variety of tasks, and I am surprised that you are given the option to donate your points to some charities. which is a noble thing to do.
What I Don’t Like About Crowdtap
1. Account Closed Without Warning
There have been complaints about members’ account getting closed without warning. Even after contacting support nothing can be done to reinstate the account. Once blocked, any outstanding balance is also automatically forfeited.
Reasons given includes:
Inconsistent IP – Users reported that they had tried to complete the tasks at home and in their offices, which apparently is against Crowdtap’s rule.
Short answer – Answering a question too short or too vague can also get you blocked.
Some users also reported bad customer service or rude support.
2. No Cash Payments
Instead of earning cash, you are getting points in exchange for a gift card.
Is Crowdtap A Scam?
No, Crowdtap is not a scam, it is a legitimate platform that allows you to earn points in exchange for the gift card.
If you just want to earn some gift cards in your spare time, then this might be something worth looking into.
However, if you are looking to make real income from home, then Crowdtap is not for you. Spending time doing menial tasks like this, without building up anything for yourself – it is not worth it!
For that reason, I recommend you to take a look at how I went from my 9-5 job to making a living online.
