7 Wealthy Affiliate Complaints I Wish I Had Known Before Signing Up

Internet marketing courses are sprouting out everywhere, some could go as low as $5 or as high as few thousand bucks – but all promising you quick and easy money while you sleep.

Well, if this was truly the case, I am sure we wouldn’t have so many people still stuck in the 9-5 jobs that they don’t like.

My guess? You probably thought the same thing about Wealthy Affiliate, and looking for reviews to find out if you can really make money with this course. In this review, we will explore the complaints made by real Wealthy Affiliate members, who had paid money and poured their heart and sweat into the program.

I am not going to sugarcoat it or turn those complaints around become yet another sales pitch. Only brutal truths here.

Don’t dare join until you have read this review. You have been warned!

As a practice of mine, I want to be completely honest with you that I am an affiliate marketer for Wealthy Affiliate. That means, if you click on any of my links to Wealthy Affiliate such as this one and end up making a purchase, I receive a commission. However, it is also because I am a real member, that I can tell you what could really go wrong with Wealthy Affiliate. It is based on my own experience – what I see, what I feel, rather than some hearsay from some random people.

1. Rogue Practices Do Exist!

If you do a search for Wealthy Affiliate review, you will realise that most of them are really positive. A few might even suggest that you can make easy money from Wealthy Affiliate!

The irony is that – Wealthy Affiliate itself never once tell you that this is going to be easy.

Unrealistic reviews like that give people false hope, leading them to believe that they can literally spend less than an hour a day and make a full-time income working from home.

And therefore sometimes you can stumble upon reviews on Wealthy Affiliatecomplaining that too much work needed to be done. Now you understand why – they have been conditioned to believe that it is going to be effortless!

I can only say – untruthful reviewers are everywhere, including in Wealthy Affiliate.

2. No Refund Policy

Just in case you are not aware, Wealthy Affiliate gives a free lifetime starter membership that grants you limited access to the platform. During the first 7 days, you get ALMOST full access to many features that only premium members are allowed to.

However, once you have decided to become a premium member, whatever amount you paid, there will be no refund.

Thankfully though, Wealthy Affiliate offers many membership plans. There is even a first month special at $19 which is a steal. So, the takeaway from here is that – unless you are very sure this is the way you want to go, don’t immediately jump into a yearly membership plan. At least take up the special first-month special offer before commit further!

3. No More Free Membership Once You Become A Premium Member

Now that you have signed up for premium membership, got all the training, and you decide to take a seat back and go back to become a free starter member.

That is when you realise that you can’t get into your account anymore!

Isn’t the free starter membership given free for a lifetime?

The answer is straightforward – if you haven’t signed up for premium membership, you can enjoy free starter membership for as long as you Iike. But once you do, there is no turning back.

Whatever you have done on the platform, you can only get access to them if you once again become a premium member.

On a side note, here is a comparison chart of the Free Starter Membership and Premium Membership options.

4. Referrer (Mentor) Is Unavailable

Personally, I signed up under a referrer that I thought was helpful and honest. He hold a high rank in Wealthy Affiliate (more about Wealthy Affiliate Ranking in the next section) and he answered my query promptly when I was still a free starter member.

However, after signed up for yearly premium membership, I sent him another query and havent heard from him since then.

Of course, he could be busy, or he could have just overlooked my email. I would love to assume the best of people. But… my point is that choose your referrer wisely. Holding a high rank doesn’t necessarily mean he/she can help you when you are in need.

In fact, people with high ranking are most likely busy maintaining their ranking, which may or may not be a good thing for you.

5. Wealthy Affiliate Ranking System

Every member of Wealthy Affiliate is assigned a rank. For an outsider, a rank may think to be associated with the level of success/reputation.

However, it is far from the truth! As a matter of fact, ranking at Wealthy Affiliate is just an indicator of how active you are as a member.

You see, Wealthy Affiliate itself is a strong social network system. It is like a Facebook for affiliate marketers – where you can find all the like-minded people whom you can socialise with. You can post personal updates, create or answering people’s questions, comment on posts, or even create your own training if you feel up to it.

The more active you are within the community, the higher your rank number will be. And if you get into the top 25. You are awarded the title of Ambassador.

So how could a ranking go wrong?

Firstly, it is kind of misleading to an outsider – thinking that better ranking = higher success. Better ranking only means that they are active in the community, nothing more than that.

Secondly, some members spent so much time being active in the community that they neglected their own blog! This is quite a deadly mistake, especially for a newbie.

6. No Free Starter Membership In Some Countries

Free Starter Membership is what led me to Wealthy Affiliate.

I hate to pay money for something that I can’t see and assess the quality for myself beforehand. And sadly, many affiliate marketing courses/platform in the market do not offer a free trial.

Some offered a money back guarantee but seriously, I don’t fancy explaining to people why their courses are so bad that I needed my refund.

Imagine my delight when I found out the free membership tier in Wealthy Affiliate!

However, when I try to introduce Wealthy Affiliate to others, some came back to me saying that they can’t get the free starter membership.

I dug deeper and I found out that in order to better protect Wealthy Affiliate members from scam, some countries that are generally associated with higher incidents of scam are exempted from the free starter membership.

As of now, these are the countries exempted from  FREE Starter Membership and First Month Discount Offer.

  1. Bangladesh
  2. Egypt
  3. Ghana
  4. India
  5. Kenya
  6. Morocco
  7. Nigeria
  8. Pakistan
  9. Philippines
  10. Vietnam

7. Quality Of Site Comment Varies

Site Comment is a commenting platform in Wealthy Affiliate where you can get real comments from other members.

In order to get comments for your site, you have to first comment on other people’s website. For every 2 comments you offered, you earn 1 credit – which you can then use to request for 1 comment.

When I first requested for a comment, I got almost 6 comments written for me! And I eventually realise that most of the time you do get more than just one.

What’s more amazing is that you can make money by contributing your comments too. But you have to first complete 50 comments in a month to become a ‘Certified Commentor’. Thereafter, every 2nd comment that you write will earn you $1.

So far it sounds pretty good, so what is the complaint?

Well, as you can see there are a lot of incentives for peole to write you comments. There are deemed to have people that just want to go through the motion to write as many comments as possible without really reading your post.

The result? General comments like ” Thanks for this interesting review! Great job! Very well written article that I absolutely enjoy reading. It is really helpful to me” sometimes do occur and it is really annoying, especially if you have actually spent time reading other people’s post and put in the effort to make relevant comments.

That is still not the worst. I had also come across comments that are totally unrelated to my post. The commentors were talking about a completely different product than the one that I had reviewed in my article!

Fortunately, incidents like these had reduced tremendously. You have the option to reject any comments that you deem not fit. Comments written are also checked for uniqueness before sent for your approval. That being said, you do still get low quality comments once in a while.

Considering all the complaints that I have about Wealthy Affiliate, now the question is – is Wealthy Affiliate still worth your time and money?

Well, the fact that I am still with them says something – I believe the pros still outweigh the cons. There is no perfect platform, just like there is no perfect timing to start something on your own.

And the fact that there are so many success stories (here are just a few), they must be doing something right!

Taking the first step is scary, changes are scary – but they are necessary especially if you don’t want to maintain your status quo?

After all, with the free membership tier, what is there for you to lose? They are not even going to ask for your personal detail or any payment detail.

Dave Sweney

Thanks for laying out your 7 Wealthy Affiliate complaints to the readers of this article, these are aggravating if you are not aware of them and only find out once you have joined. I appreciate your candor and as a member myself, I could add in a couple more, but they are also not points that knock the platform out of the running for consideration.

Having said that, this is the reason I have chosen to remain a member for over 4 years as of now. The positive far outweighs the negative when it comes to the platform. The features and tools are very helpful to my online business, even though the focus of my business is not on affiliate marketing.

It is fair to mention these to the prospects though, and you are right that many reviews only mention the good points (there are many). If I compare what you get for the price, from my own experience I can say you are saving huge amounts of money over piecing together the tools from different sources. With Wealthy Affiliate, they come in one platform. Good post thanks! I have bookmarked it for future reference!

Thanks for sharing your own experience Dave!

You have truly pinpointed some alarming cons concerning wealthy Affiliate to which I never truly gave the thought too. The part you talked about your refferer being like that is very disheartening. They should be available at eveytime one needs their help. I just joined wealthy Affiliate and seeing all these, I am beginning to feel I have made a huge mistake of choosing them over other platforms but irrespective, I believe I can still find my way within the platform myself without the help of my referrer.

Of course you can, because I did!

Just as I said, my mentor could have really overlooked my message. But I eventually got a lot of help from other members too.

This review is made to balance out other ‘overwhelmingly positive’ reviews of Wealthy Affiliate. But I have never regretted joining them. Hope this helps you!

Never seen anyone write so much complaints about wealthy affiliate, truth is that it’s the first time I’m seeing as many cons as this about the platform. It’s nice that you can open my eyes to this things. Okay so I am also a premium member and I feel it’s not always the case with high ranking members to bee busy. My mentor is high ranked and like you said most high ranking members are usually too focused on the community so she always has time for me when I have a problem. Next I am also a site commenter on wealthy affiliate so I understand what you mean by sometimes comments might not relate but a few months ago Carson and Kyle swept those into those acts away. I think this complaints are real while some are not totally complaints. I believe it just depends on the user. Like you said, the pros greatly outweighs the cons and that’s totally true. Great overview.

Thank you for sharing your experience here. I am happy for you that your experience here are very positive!

You are spot in with your article about wealthy Affiliate and I couldn’t agree less with you concerning your summation on them. The cons of this platform are not too weighty though but the ones you have pointed out are really worth addressing. I believe if your referrer isn’t responding to your queries, you can always make use of the live help segment or you can simply throw the question to the whole platform, definitely someone would reply you as fast as possible.
Further, it is true that the platform is confusing concerning the ranking system. I thought it was just based on success until I realised some people that I have a better ranking than and they are already super affiliates. Well, I guess that kyle or Carson could be messaged on that.
Thanks for presenting all these bad parts of wealthy Affiliate, to which I know most people won’t do. Thanks

I did eventually find the answer I was looking for. And to be fair, majority of the members here are really helpful. I sent private messages to other members that I do not know at all and 96% of the time they replied!

Your write-up on the 7 WA complaints you wish you had known before signing up sounds like you wouldn’t join membership if you have known all these complaints, good you are still around, I am a WA Premium Member. Let me see, rogue practices, I see it depends on the persons experience, but for as long as there are more significant number who have positive reviews doesn’t make it a roque but you are right it did happen. No refund policy, it is fair enough for most countries except the 10 countries without this options – free membership. This is for WA to think about. These 10 selected countries have no Free starter membership, well it is their prerogatives with valid reasons – scam prevention. and the quality of site comments varies because not all people have the brains to really answer the question properly! Once I did comment the wrong way! My advice: read the instructions! One thing you said 100% correct – others become so addicted staying the rat race for a useless WA ranking not for earning Online business. Yes, I realized it is indeed,  fatal! This is legit I would say, great info.

Having complaints may not necessarily be a bad thing. It could also mean that we still have faith in it and we want to see it better!
